Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
After the 2010 election, I started to hate my job and some of the shits I worked and interacted with. So I quit. I've done a lot more travelling and have found ways to truly help people. I'm much happier.

Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
Agree with what Spandex said. I'm at a crossroads in my life. I was once married/house etc. 5 years single this year, no kids but I'd like them one day. Late 30's and my friends are either on their 2nd marriages etc.

I had to start over again after the divorce and to be honest the last 5 years I've had a blast. I've travelled all over the world, I'm living somewhere I love ( albeit renting ) drive a car I wanted to drive for years. Filled my boots lady wise, lost about 6 stone in weight.

I lost my dad at the beginning of the year after a fairly short battle with cancer. He got so much enjoyment around me travelling, going off doing things. I'm going to carry on doing that, and one day hopefully I'll meet someone and have a family.

I have 2 quotes I kind of live by now. "The world is a book, and those who don't travel only turn one page" and the other.. similar vein I guess "I'd rather accummalate experiences over wealth"

Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
Everyone is/was obsessed with home ownership, prices become stratospheric and now you and the missus need to slog your guts out for maximum cash in soul destroying shit.

Go and look around a graveyard. See how many of the headstones say what a great middle manager the deceased was.

Life's too short to waste a minute of it doing stuff you hate. Rethink your life's priorities and ask yourself whether the house/car/holidays are worth it. Make whatever changes are necessary, you'll be much happier in the long run.

Life was MUCH better when everyone wasn't so fucking 'aspirational'

I'm in the same game as Joe Royal.
Yesterday I was offered a place on Elton John's June/July tour.
This morning it turns out he's intensive care so it's all a bit up in the air at the moment.

I recently had a year of no work. Then I scored the job I have now doing IT support work from home for vastly more than I ever earned before. I know I'll end up hating it, but it will be tough to give up.

Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
I love my job.

The fact I've been able to live and work in so many cities as pretty much all IT/Finance projects are in English is great. But probably time to quit Brussels and Barcelona is on the radar.

I think the the most interesting assignment was in Kaunas , Lithuania.

20 odd replies and not a single suggestion of moving off fries on to burgers or to change his lube if his bum is getting too sore!!!

Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
I must confess that my divorce kick-started/enabled me to not just look at bringing the bacon home each month.

I did enjoy my work and was able to basically select what I wanted to do out of a large portfolio of "must do" projects, but there was still something lacking.

Turned out it was the commute into London, so, I knocked BT on the head, set up then sold on my own business and subsequently joined the big wide world of consulting (with massive emphasis on the "con" bit when stupid clients came a-calling. Fuck 'em. They should have paid attention at school.).

Now I get to choose when and where I work, for who and for how long.

The only down-side to my current contract is that, on my 10-15 minute commute stroll, I need to cross 2 10-lane highways en route between my office and my apartment - but the locals have kindly and strategically placed a couple of pedestrian crossings right where I need them.

If you really detest your work, do all you can to get (at least) 6 months living expenses put aside, sign up with agencies for temp work (to give you income & flexibility while you decide your next move), then go for it.*

* - HEALTH WARNING!!! I'm a cunt and take no responsibility for the outcome of any event based on the above. My invoice, however, is in the post, and prompt payment is appreciated/anticipated/expected.

Sniper , been doing rock and roll driving for about six years , love the job . After touring Europe with some of the biggest bands in the world everything else seems a bit tame.

Pay ain't bad either.

Wow, enjoy that then Joe - she's meant to be an immense brat though isnt she?!

If I didn't have a family/mortgage etc then I'd leave and do something else. I can't though as my job pays more than I can realistically get elsewhere and can't afford to take a cut. The people I work with are fine, managers are generally ok but the content of the work and the day tondaybgrind of it all is like Groundhog Day without the humour

I loved work but then I started my own business as a young man and had a sense of satisfaction as it grew bigger and bigger until I took an offer I couldn't refuse for it and now....what's work?

Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
Surely 99% of jobs are shite, as only odd people enjoy working more than they enjoy their social time.

I just block it out and appreciate that I'm surrounded my stunners and work with some pretty decent people who like a beer.

The fact they're all lawyers and wouldn't give filth like me the time of day is neither here nor there ;o)

stoneman 11:43 Tue Apr 25
Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
I had my own business for 4 years and it nearly killed me.
7 day weeks, 16 hour days and all you are thinking about is work, work, work.

I am much happier being employed and being able to close my door on a Friday and not have to worry about anything. I shall leave that to others.

Takashi Miike 11:39 Tue Apr 25
Re: Anyone else on here really hate their job?
even the worst/hardest of jobs can be enjoyable if you're working with decent people and under a good manager. the problem is, most places are now infested with shit houses, cunts and useless fucking managers. that's what makes jobs unbearable
